Kamran was born in Kabul, Afghanistan. Due to the tumultuous events in Afghanistan, Kamran and his family moved to India. It was in India, where Kamran was initially exposed to the mystical and diverse musical styles of Hindustan. After multiple moves across the globe, ones all of us Afghans are familiar with. Kamran ended up in San Rafael in 1993. He attended Terra Linda High School where he excelled in the Shakespearean arts and played many lead roles in local theater productions. A unique characteristic in his acting methods was bringing neoteric approaches to conventionally celebrated roles.
Kamran's passion has always been music, and specifically the greatest music format of all which is our beloved Afghan music. A music format once exalted in his historical musical centers such as India and Iran, its contemporary format is but a shadow of its former greatness and has diminished exponentially in depth and quality. Kamran's inspiration in the world of music is the rejuvenation of the creative format that once enriched the Afghan musical experience. Afghan music has been a stagnant format for too long, which has resulted in the homogenous sounds we have been exposed to in the last few decades. Without the ability to write or read Dari but passionately driven by his vision to inspire others in his quest for originality, Kamran has created and composed songs with a fervent passion in introducing beautiful poetry to which today's youth has had no prior exposure.
Kamran's first artistic endeavor into music began with playing of the Tablas. He eventually reached out to Ustad Khyal, from whom he learned the fundamentals of Afghan music. Through his diligent dedication to his dreams, Kamran was ready to attempt to accomplish his original inspiration in music. Inspired by the forsaken and magnificent classical poetry counseled by his brother, Jamshed, who is a lover of poetry and arts in his own right, Kamran composed commensurate songs to illustrate the finer points of these classical proverbs.
He is the proud father of a beautiful little Lailee, who is the true inspiration of his life. He is a long time resident and well respected community member in Marin County, California. The completion of this CD begins a musical journey for both contemporary and classical fans of Afghan music. Hopefully, it will move others to pursue their dreams and inspire originality within them.
